Design:
"The title is combining the words for killer whale and supernatural. It was a drum design and an experiment in abstraction, folding the tail over top and playing with the dorsal fin as the negative space between the tail."
By Haida Artist, Robert Davidson, Guud Sans Glans:
For more than fifty years now, Robert Davidson has worked as an artist and has produced an internationally acclaimed body of work. His work is found in a number of private and public collections including the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Canadian Museum of History in Hull, Quebec, the Southwest Museum in Los Angeles. His Haida name is Guud Sans Glans which means "Eagle of the Dawn".
Davidson’s passion to revive and perpetuate a variety of forms of Haida cultural expression, including song, dance and ceremony, has fueled his remarkable output throughout the years. He has been responsible among other things for carving and raising the first totem pole in his hometown of Massett in nearly 90 years when he was just 22 years old. His inspiration was to give his elders a chance to celebrate culture in a way they had not been able to in their lifetimes.
How do we ship your art?
Our mission is to ensure that every piece arrives in the same condition it left us in so that you can enjoy your artwork right away. Our packaging methods follow museum-quality recommendations to protect and preserve fine art.
Framed print:
We packaged framed pieces in a custom-built plywood crate. We start with wrapping the framed artwork in acid-free glassine. Then we add multiple layers of protection, including cardboard corners, bubble wrap, and a vapor barrier to protect against moisture, which is then enclosed in a box made from heavy-duty foam board and further enclosed in a plywood box. Handles are added to each crate to ensure ease of transport through each touch point. We ship UPS, which includes full insurance, a tracking number, and an adult signature, which is required upon delivery. We also complete all necessary customs clearance paperwork for items traveling outside Canada.
Our packaging methods adhere to museum and fine art standards to ensure your artwork arrives safely.
Conservation Glass:
All of our framed artwork is framed using conservation glass to ensure the preservation of the artwork for years to come.
