Print Design: Crafted using the block printing technique on mulberry paper, this artwork features the supernatural being, Dogfish, as depicted in Haida oral history.
This piece draws inspiration from the Dogfish Headdress by Haida artist Corey Bulpitt. This piece pays homage to his craftsmanship and vision. It was commissioned by Haida master carver Christian White, who also mentors Danielle in Haida art. This artwork is a testament to the rich artistic lineage and collaborative spirit within the community.
"The story of the Dogfish Mother tells of a woman who was carried off by a Dogfish and was transformed into a shark herself. She is depicted having a face with a hooked nose and gills. She became an ancestress of the families who now claim the Shark as their crest. The dogfish is a common type of shark, so the dogfish mother is a larger shark, a blue shark or great white." - Haida artist, Corey Bulpitt
