Daisy White (Stlaanee Jaadaas - “left-hand woman") is Haida from Old Massett, Haida Gwaii; she comes from the Yahgu ‘Laanaas Raven clan of Dadens. She is the daughter of Derek White Sr and Dorcas Bell. Derek is an accomplished carver who works in silver, argillite, gold and wood, and Dorcas works as a weaver of cedar bark and Raven’s Tail. Being exposed to Haida arts and culture throughout her life has led her to work in her own art practice.
Coming from a family with so many established artists, Daisy has had the opportunity to work on a number ofmonumental totem poles. She has helped carve and paint several totem poles since 2009, working with Christian White, Derek White Sr. and Todd White. Working alongside her uncles and father, Daisy has developed her skills in carving and painting. She is looking to expand her design experience and refine her carving and painting skills, to then apply this knowledge to a variety of surfaces and mediums.
