They were created as part of Morgan's "Royal Portrait" exhibition, highlighting the Northwest Coast's understanding of royalty — one rooted in responsibility, caretaking, and connection to the land.
Clamshells represent the responsibilities of high-ranking women, while dentalium shells—harvested from sea mollusks—were traditionally used as currency along the Northwest Coast, symbolizing wealth and prosperity.
